Just ‘Girls’ Snowboard Camp

So, the first week of Easter I went on a Just Girls snowboard camp in Morzine, France. The camp was run by Mint Snowboarding, the camp included stay at a Mountain Mavericks Chalet and professional camping – more details can be found on the Just Snowboard website. After a train journey to Geneva Airport from Zurich I was met buy the driver for the Chalet, Chris was a whole heap of fun and the journey up to the chalet passed in no time. On arrival the other girls were in the chalet and I was greeted by canapés and bubbles 🙂

The Chalet

The Chalet was awesome, the food prepared by Ryan and Finn was great and wholesome and they dealt with my egg allergy really well, never making me feel like I was being a pain and making some awesome meals. The communal areas in the chalet were spacious and welcoming, especially the hot tub 🙂 Luckily I got a room to myself, in the attic space of the chalet and this was great as long as I remembered to watch my head.

The Course

The course started on the Sunday – a half days lesson every day apart from Wednesday, then generally there was guided riding for the other half day. Dave our instructor from Mint was awesome, really thought about what we wanted to get out of the lessons and structured it so everyone got something from the lessons. We were lucky enough to get Jenny Jones coaching us for two half days, this was great to get a pro snowboarders perspective and we had such a giggle on the slopes. Most of our riding was done in Avoriaz and theres something here for everyone, the slopes although busy are varied, theres different levels of park and we even got a half day in the super pipe 🙂 I never thought at the start of the week I’d be in the super pipe and that was down to the great coaching by Mint.

All in all I cant wait to head back next year 🙂 If you want to have a look at some pics from the week you’ll find them here and here.

I also bought a new toy whilst i was away, a new board 🙂 you’ll find pics in the sets.

  1. I can relate to point #5 on genttig home in one piece! I’m 30 and just started snowboarding this season, and on my first outing landed myself a mild concussion after catching a nasty heelside edge. A few years ago I wouldn’t have thought much of it, but now I have a toddler and twin one-year-olds. I ordered a helmet the very next day and wore it even on the bunny hill as I practiced. My wife absolutely loves to ski and like you she always feels guilty about leaving the kids with family while we go out for the afternoon. But I think it’d be harder to keep our sanity if we never did anything at all. Plus, grandmas love spending time with their grand kids so you’re doing each other a favor. That’s my two cents on that anyways. Thanks for the videos, I’ve found them to be very helpful. I can now link turns and want to go every day! I never liked to ski, but now I can share in my wife’s favorite hobby because of snowboarding.
