Photography – Filters

Which filter to use and when?

ND (neutral density) – landscape photography, works to cut the amount of light entering through the lens. Tones down bright areas enables capturing of more exposure with less burned areas. DIfferent strengths available – can help add more or less contrast between land and sky as an example.

Polariser – eliminates glare – again good for landscapes – sky will become darker with a polariser on as it reduces the glare and reflection to reproduce the colours that have more of a punch ad have more saturations. Can end up with too much polarising – resulting in flat and lifeless images.

UV filter – protects the lens more than anything.. wont really see a difference in the images.
